Ekoportal is a website created to actively disseminate environmental information, as well as meta-information, to help to reach out to key information available on servers of the Ministry of the Environment and central environmental units. Our goal is to present the most relevant, reliable information in a readable manner and provide quick access to the desired content.
Our aim is that Ekoportal will be used as an Internet window onto Polish ecology. Our ambition is also, through Ekoportal, to assist the public in recognising and realising the need for environmental protection in Poland and encourage society to work together for the benefit of its protection.
Information on the portal is divided thematically. Finding the information you need is made easier by so called meta-information, i.e. knowledge about what information is held by government bodies dealing with environmental protection and about where and how they can be made available. The Centre presents the meta-information by means of:
- Meta-data databases (a publicly available register of data regarding documents containing information about the environment and its protection), which contain meta-data from more than 1,300 governmental entities
- Guide for databases and registers of the Ministry of the Environment and central environmental units
We provide current information from the Ministry and central environmental units regarding current and important topics and enable easy access to any laws and regulations concerning the environment.
We offer online courses accompanied with audio.
We provide updated reports on the state of the environment in Poland.
We promote eco-tourism, providing information about the most valuable natural places to visit, such as National and Landscape Parks and the ecological events organised in those parks (calendar).
We deliver publications commissioned by the Centre and drawn from ecological journals. These relate to various aspects of nature, the impact of human activities on the environment and its protection.
To facilitate the implementation of obligations under environmental law, we publish an online guide for entrepreneurs on our website entitled “Obligations of entrepreneurs in the use of the environment”. We also try to facilitate access to information on the possibilities and ways of financing investment in environmental protection, from both European Union and national funds.
Through Ekoportal, the Centre provides a free of charge, functional database that can be used by all entities of public administration that are obliged to keep a publicly available register of data, which is the meta-data database of documents held or intended for such entities, which contain information about the environment and its protection.
In addition, in the Eco-map section on Ekoportal, spatial data on National Parks, Landscape Parks and Natura 2000 areas is presented in the background of an orthophoto map (satellite images).
